How to get started:

You may qualify to receive services at New Hope if:

  1. You can provide verification that your household income is $45,000/year or less.
    AND,
  2. You have no health insurance (However, if you receive verifiable State or Federal aid, you automatically qualify to receive services at New Hope.)

Fees and appointments are set after income and need is validated. (See “New Hope Sliding Scale” and “Payment of Services” below.) A pastor may sponsor a client for an exception to any of the above criteria (see New Hope Pastor Sponsorship Form).

Here’s what you can expect when you call:

  1. You are able to contact our intake person at 301-696-8880.
  2. Our intake coordinator will take your request for services, ask about the type of service you are seeking, and ask for your qualifying information.
  3. The intake person will ask you to provide one of the following:
Documentation of the client’s State or Federal aid
New Hope Financial Need Application Form (including verification of financial status)
    New Hope Pastor Sponsorship Form
  4. Upon qualifying for New Hope services, your fee will be set based on our sliding scale (unless you are willing/able to pay more).
  5. Your information will be passed on to the therapist, who will call you to set up your first appointment time.
  6. The initial interview can vary depending on the therapist and the type of services you are requesting.
The first appointment will be two hours long. It will include filling out some forms, a first session with the therapist, and some form of psychological assessment.
You will be asked to do three things:
º Fill out the “New Hope Client Information and Agreement” form – this will inform you of your responsibilities in the therapeutic relationship.
º Complete the “Religious-Spiritual Client Intake” form – this will let your therapist know how you prefer to have your spiritual values incorporated into the therapy experience.
º Fill out some form of a preliminary diagnostic measure to give your therapist a rudimentary understanding of your personality and/or a basic measure of that issue for which you are coming to therapy.
  7. The therapist, at the beginning of the initial session with client, will communicate information about confidentiality and the basics of what you can expect in the therapy relationship.
  8. At the end of the first session, you and the therapist will schedule the next appointment.
